The Attic Institute, Fellow in Fiction

As a transplant to Portland, Oregon, via NYC and LA, I applied and was accepted as a fellow in fiction at the Attic Institute’s Masters Program. My time spent at the institute introduced me to the thriving writer’s community in downtown Portland, where I wrote and completed my novella of interconnected characters, The Brown Eye, a collection of short stories that takes place in Virginia, 1969. The stories touch on current themes: racism, homosexuality, unrequited love, physical and mental disabilities and murder—the usual recipes for a friendly neighborhood.
